According to the information given by the Railways, from July 15, Tatkal ticket booking will be done only after authentication with Aadhaar. Railway agents will be able to book tickets after half an hour. Let us tell you that till now the booking of Tatkal tickets was dominated by agents. With the opening of the Tatkal window, the agents used to book almost all the tickets, but the new rule will provide great relief to the general public.
Railway Circular
The Ministry of Railways issued a circular on 10 June 2025. This circular states that from July 1, 2025, Tatkal tickets will be booked through the website / app of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) only by those users who have verified through Aadhaar. After this, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will also be made mandatory for Tatkal booking from July 15, 2025.
The circular states- Tatkal tickets will be available for booking through computerized PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters/authorized agents of Indian Railways only after verification of the system generated OTP. This OTP will be sent to the mobile number provided by the users at the time of booking.
When does the Tatkal window open?
The window for Tatkal railway ticket booking opens at 10 am. However, during this time only AC coach tickets are booked. On the other hand, the booking of tickets for sleeper coaches starts at 11 am on the Tatkal window. During this time, the general public is able to get Tatkal tickets with great difficulty.
Agents take over
Common people face the most problems on the routes of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for Tatkal booking. At the same time, agents are able to book Tatkal tickets easily. After this, agents charge arbitrary charges from customers for the tickets. Now, according to the new circular of the Railways, agents will be banned from booking ‘Tatkal’ tickets for AC category from 10 am to 10.30 am and for sleeper category from 11 am to 11.30 am. This will give the common people a chance to book Tatkal tickets easily.
