Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules Changed: In a major and significant decision, the Western Railway has made changes to the booking of Tatkal tickets. The Railways has made this change for the Shatabdi Express train running between Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Mumbai Central. Western Railway has introduced OTP verification for passengers. This new system will be implemented from December 1, 2025. According to an official statement, Tatkal tickets for the Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express will be issued only after passengers complete OTP (One Time Password) authentication. Western Railway announced on Friday that it is making a significant change to the Tatkal booking system for trains to make ticketing more transparent and passenger-friendly.
Enter only valid mobile number
According to an official statement, from December 1, 2025, Tatkal tickets for the Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express will be issued only after passengers complete OTP (One Time Password) authentication. The official said that tickets will be issued only after the OTP is successfully verified. According to Western Railway, the new system will be applicable to Tatkal bookings made through the following methods: computerized PRS counters, authorized agents, IRCTC website, IRCTC mobile app. According to Western Railway, the aim of this move is to prevent misuse, promote transparency, and ensure that genuine passengers have a better chance of getting Tatkal tickets. In its statement, the Railways said that passengers are advised to provide a valid and contactable mobile number at the time of booking to avoid delays.
Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express Time Table
The Shatabdi Express, running between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad, is a very popular train. Train number 12009/12010 operates weekdays and does not run on Sundays. It departs from Mumbai Central at 6:20 am and arrives in Ahmedabad at 12:40 pm. The train covers the 491-kilometer distance in 6 hours and 20 minutes. It stops at Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Nadiad, and Ahmedabad stations along its journey. It departs from Ahmedabad at 3:10 pm and arrives at Mumbai Central at 9:45 am. Due to its excellent timing, it enjoys a high occupancy rate, and there is a waiting list for tickets.
