Tatkal Ticket Booking: Railways is going to make a big change in the rules of Tatkal ticket booking. Now to book Tatkal tickets, confirmation of identity through e-Aadhaar i.e. electronic Aadhaar will be mandatory. This will stop fraud and it will be easy for real passengers to get confirmed tickets.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Wednesday that soon e-Aadhaar verification will be started for Tatkal ticket booking. He said through a post on Twitter that Tatkal tickets can now be booked only after e-Aadhaar verification. This will benefit needy and real passengers.
A senior official of the Railway Ministry said that e-Aadhaar verification will be a new step. Currently, there is already a facility to book up to 24 tickets in a month by linking IRCTC account with Aadhaar. He said that those whose IRCTC account is linked with Aadhaar will get priority in the first 10 minutes of Tatkal ticket booking. Even authorized agents will not be able to book tickets in these 10 minutes.” That is, if your identity is not verified from the government database, then you will not have access to the most valuable first 10 minutes for Tatkal tickets.
Bharatiya Railways will soon start using e-Aadhaar authentication to book Tatkal tickets.
This will help genuine users get confirmed tickets during need.

The figures clearly show that the real battle of Tatkal ticket booking takes place in the first 10 minutes of opening the window. Between 24 May and 2 June, out of 1.08 lakh tickets of AC class, about 62.5% i.e. 67,159 tickets were booked in the first 10 minutes only. In which 5,615 tickets were sold out in the first minute and 22,827 in the second minute. The same is the case with non-AC class, where out of an average of 1.18 lakh tickets booked daily, about 66.4% tickets are sold out in the first 10 minutes.
The official said that this change has been taken to stop bots and automatic software being used in online ticket booking.
According to railway data, on an average 2.25 lakh Tatkal tickets are booked every day. A large number of these tickets are booked from accounts that have been created without Aadhaar verification. Many times complaints of suspicious booking and black marketing are received from these. In the last 6 months, the railways have closed more than 2.4 crore fake or suspicious accounts, and about 20 lakh accounts are still under investigation. Out of 13 crore users of IRCTC, only 1.2 crore accounts are linked to Aadhaar.
This new rule of the railways will be an important step to improve not only the ticket booking system but also security and transparency. If you want that there is no problem while booking Tatkal tickets, then link your IRCTC account to Aadhaar as soon as possible.

What is Tatkal ticket and how to book it?
Tatkal is a special quota, which is for passengers who need emergency or instant travel. It has limited seats and these tickets are booked just a day before the date of travel. The time for Tatkal booking is also fixed according to the class. Booking for AC class (2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E) starts at 10:00 am, while booking for Non-AC class (SL, FC, 2S) starts at 11:00 am.
Why does the IRCTC website become slow?
In response to a question last month, IRCTC said that during Tatkal booking, about 9 to 10 lakh users log in to the website simultaneously, which puts a lot of pressure on the server and the site becomes slow.
