Railways Extend OTP-Based Tatkal Rule: After Rajdhani, Duronto, and Shatabdi trains, Indian Railways has decided to implement a ticket verification system on 100 trains across the country. Under this system, passengers will be required to share their OTP for Tatkal ticket booking. This move is aimed at preventing ticket black marketing and providing convenience to genuine travelers.
OTP Verification Rule for Tatkal Tickets: OTP (One Time Password) verification will now be mandatory for booking Tatkal tickets on the Ganga-Damodar Express, which departs from Dhanbad Railway Station on the East Central Railway (EC), as well as the Mumbai Mail and Vananchal Express that pass through here. This new system is being implemented by the railway administration from Thursday. Its purpose is to bring transparency in Tatkal tickets and curb touts.
According to railway officials, this system was initially implemented on premium trains like Rajdhani, Duronto, and Shatabdi. After seeing positive results there, it is now being expanded to 100 mail and express trains across the country. This list includes the Ganga-Damodar Express, Mumbai Mail, and Vananchal Express, as well as the Ranchi-Banaras Express, Hatia-Islampur Express, and Hatia-Purnia Court Koshi Express.
Under the new system, an OTP will be sent to the passenger’s mobile phone upon booking an Tatkal ticket from the reservation center. This OTP will be sent to the same mobile number entered in the reservation form. The passenger will be required to verify the OTP by providing it at the reservation counter. Tatkal tickets will be issued only after the OTP is verified. If the OTP is not verified, the ticket will not be issued.
The Railways have urged passengers to carry an active mobile phone with them when booking Tatkal tickets and to enter the correct mobile number on the reservation form. If the number is incorrect or inactive, the OTP will not be received, which may cause problems with ticket booking.
The Railway administration believes that the OTP-based verification system will benefit genuine passengers and prevent fraudulent bookings and touting. Additionally, the availability of Tatkal tickets will improve for ordinary passengers. This system is likely to be implemented on more trains and other reservation methods in the coming days.
