The reasons for the greening of the Ganga from Varanasi to Mirzapur were revealed, the investigation team prepared the report

The reason for the green water of the Ganges in Varanasi has been revealed. It was already being told that the water of the Ganges is turning green due to algae. But where is this algae suddenly coming from, there was a churning about it. When the team formed by the DM investigated, it came to know that algae are flowing from the STP of Vindhyachal. The five-member inquiry committee has disclosed this in its report. The team has prepared the report. It is being said to be handed over to the District Magistrate on Friday.

It has been found in the investigation that these algae are flowing to Varanasi from the STP made with old technology in Vindhyachal. Their numbers were very high in the last few days of rain. Its report will be sent to the government and will also be written for action against those responsible. The problem of algae has become serious due to low water level and no flow. This problem will go away as the water level rises.

Let us tell you that the amount of green algae in the Ganges river had suddenly increased. After the incident, lines of concern had increased on the foreheads of the scientists including the residents of Kashi. Last time also these algae had come into the Ganges from the Lohia river near Mirzapur. Due to algae, there is a crisis on the ecosystem of Ganga. In the preliminary investigation of the Pollution Control Board, it was also revealed that the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in the Ganges water has exceeded the prescribed standards.

Dr. Kriparam, a scientist at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development at BHU, had told that algae blooms (green algae) are formed due to the process of eutrophication in water. This happens when the nutrients in the water get too high. Due to this there is an unexpected increase in the number of non-essential healthy organisms. In such a situation, algae get the most suitable environment for photosynthesis. Then the oxygen in the water starts decreasing, which affects the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) first.

Recommendation to the government for action against the officer of Mirzapur STP from

Varanasi to Mirzapur (Vindhyachal Up Stream) from June 08, 09 and 10 by the members of the 05 member committee constituted by District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma regarding the finding of green algae in the river Ganga. ) After going to the origin, source and causes of algae going to the Ganges Ghats, a joint report was handed over to them.

It has been told that STP of 04 MLD capacity at Vidhyachal in Mirzapur is based on the Conventional System (Lagunning System). The purification effluent generated from STP is disposed of in river Ganga through Basavaria drain. Green algae is found in the Ganges river from the purified effluent, then it gradually developed over time in the Ganges river. Thus STP of 4 MLD capacity appears to be the main source of algae by Vindhyachal.

According to DM, water has suitable temperature for the growth of algal bloom, which helps in the development of algal bloom. Along with this, due to the flow of water from the fields along with the nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, urea, DAP etc. Partially from Mirzapur city and domestic sewage generated from Chunar is disposed of without purification. District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma has recommended action in the government against the responsible officer of Mirzapur STP on the basis of the inquiry report of the committee.
