What are the rules for upgrading tickets
Under IRCTC’s auto-upgrade policy, train tickets can get free upgrade to higher class if seats are available after chart preparation. This upgrade usually applies to waitlisted tickets of sleeper class and seating class. This upgrade is automatic and depends on the availability of seats in higher class. However, your ticket can be upgraded only up to two higher classes.
Do this one thing while booking train ticket
To avail the facility of ticket upgrade, passengers have to choose the upgrade option while booking IRCTC train ticket. If this option is not selected then the facility will not be available. How to choose the option-
- While booking train ticket, click on the class as per your convenience for the selected train.
- Then fill the passenger details, such as name, age, gender, berth preference and other information.
- Click on the Auto-upgrade checkbox to upgrade your tickets to higher class.
- There will be no change in the PNR of the passengers on upgradation to higher class.
