In this sequence, now the US company Uber Technologies Ltd is taking a big step. Now soon to book a ride from Uber, users will not need to download the Uber app, they will be able to do this work directly from the instant messaging platform WhatsApp. The company said on Thursday that it is bringing a new feature in India, with the help of which users will be able to book rides from WhatsApp itself.

According to a report by Reuters, Uber said in a blog post that ‘starting this week we are launching a new service, which will give people the option to book a ride through an official Uber WhatsApp chatbot.’

The company said that ‘riders will no longer need to download or use the Uber app to book a ride. From user registration to booking rides and getting trip receipts, everything will be done on WhatsApp’s chat interface.

Let us tell you that Uber has been operating in India for the last eight years and is providing its services in about 70 cities. At the same time, WhatsApp has 500 million users in the country, so Uber will get a chance to connect with crores of users in these 70 cities.

How will the new feature work

To book a ride through WhatsApp, WhatsApp users will either have to scan a barcode and message Uber’s business account number or they will get the option to go to the Uber WhatsApp chat by clicking on the direct link.

Riders will get all the safety features and insurance protection that are available to those who book a ride directly through the Uber app. The riders will be informed about the safety guidelines on the WhatsApp chat itself. At the same time, information about how to contact Uber in the event of an emergency will also be given.

First, the people of Lucknow will get this service

The company has told that this service is being started as a pilot project first in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. After this it will be extended to other cities. First this service will start in English. The company has said that there are plans to launch it in other Indian languages as well.
