Information about Waqf properties can now be obtained in just one click. The Ministry of Minority Affairs of the Central Government has launched the ‘UMEED’ portal for this. It will be mandatory to register the Waqf property on this portal within six months.

To ensure better management and transparency of Waqf properties, the government has now taken one more step. The central government has launched the ‘Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development’ portal. It is being called the Umeed Portal in short. On this occasion, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that this portal will play a special role in the management of Waqf properties. This portal will be a single window basis for the registration of Waqf properties.

Within six months of the launch of this portal, the Waqf doer and the Mutawalli i.e. the manager of the Waqf property will register all the information related to the Waqf property in this portal. Then the competent officer of the District or Waqf Board will verify all the information. Then a 17-digit unique ID will be issued. After the entire information related to the Waqf property is uploaded on the portal, if anyone has any objection to the Waqf property, then that can also be registered.

In case of any objection or dispute on the Waqf property, there will be a three-level system for appeal. With the launch of Umeed, it is now clear that the detailed information of any Waqf property can be seen, known and understood with just one click. This Umeed portal has been launched at a time when the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has announced to challenge this move of the government in the Supreme Court.

After launching the Umeed portal, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that this portal is a revolutionary and historic step in better, transparent, efficient and convenient management of Waqf properties. He also said that the state government and Waqf Board should keep in mind the time limit. First the property should be registered, after that its management and development work will be carried out. This will stop the clandestine misuse of Waqf property.

Earlier, due to lack of information, no one except a handful of people knew which properties were Waqf. Now everyone will know everything. The ministry will launch the portal and also follow it up. The Central Waqf Council, the state Waqf boards and the technical team of the ministry have worked hard to make this portal inclusive.
