Now for one year, about 81.35 crore people will get free ration every month. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has given information about this decision of the cabinet.

The Central Government took a major decision on the National Food Security Act in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has extended the scheme of free ration till December 2023 under this law. Now for one year, about 81.35 crore people will get free ration every month. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has given information about this decision of the cabinet.

Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal gave information about the decision taken regarding the National Food Act in the cabinet meeting. The Union Minister said, “Under the National Food Security Act, the government provides rice, wheat and coarse grains at the rate of Rs 3, 2 and 1 per kg respectively. The government has decided that by December 2023 it will be completely free of cost.” 81.35 crore people will be benefited from this.

Significantly, the central government had started the free ration scheme during the Corona period. The objective of this scheme was to provide ration to every household during the Korana epidemic in the country. When the country was fighting the battle with Corona, then the central government had started the free ration scheme so that no one sleeps hungry. Due to this every household is getting free ration from that period of epidemic.

Recently, while commenting on this scheme, the Supreme Court had said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that food grains reach the poor people of every household. The apex court said that it is not that the Center is not doing anything, the government has provided food grains to the people during the Corona period. We have to ensure that this continues. It has been our culture that no one should sleep hungry. Explain that the Supreme Court made this comment when it was hearing the problems faced by the migrant laborers during Covid and lockdown.

In 2013, the government implemented the National Food Security Act

The National Food Security Act was introduced on September 10, 2013 during the UPA government. Under this scheme, the aim of the government is to provide food grains to the poor families at minimum price. In this scheme, rice is available at Rs 3, wheat at Rs 2 and coarse grains at Rs 1 per kg.
