UP New Minimum Wage Rate: Following protests staged by workers in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, demanding a wage hike, the Yogi government has taken a significant step. Under this decision, new minimum wage rates have received legal approval across the entire state. The Governor has given official assent to this decision by the state government, and a formal notification has been issued. It is noteworthy that the government was compelled to intervene following the events in Noida. Consequently, new wage rates have been implemented across three distinct categories.

Interim relief measures have been implemented based on the recommendations of a high-level committee. Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad have been placed in the ‘First Category,’ while the remaining districts have been divided into two separate groups.

Why are there two districts in the First Category?

According to the decision, the new rates will come into effect starting April 1, 2026. Under this framework, wages will be determined inclusive of the Dearness Allowance. This move by the government is being viewed as an initiative to strike a balance between the demands of workers and the prevailing conditions of the industries. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the state has been categorized into three distinct groups. The first category comprises Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad—regions where the cost of living is relatively higher. Here, the monthly minimum wage has been fixed at ₹13,690 for unskilled workers, ₹15,059 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹16,868 for skilled workers.

Specific Rates by Category

The second category encompasses other districts that possess a Municipal Corporation, where the rates have been set at ₹13,006 for unskilled workers, ₹14,306 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹16,025 for skilled workers.

The third category covers the remaining districts, where the wage rates have been fixed at ₹12,356, ₹13,590, and ₹15,224, respectively. All these rates include the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) in addition to the basic pay.
