Why is the Heat Intensifying?
According to experts from the Meteorological Department, an anticyclone is currently hovering over Peninsular India, including the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. This system is gradually moving towards Central India. Concurrently, a spell of dry westerly winds continues across the region. These winds are absorbing moisture and driving up the heat.
Heat to Intensify Further After April 18
According to the seven-day forecast issued by the Meteorological Department for the period of April 15 to April 21, the weather across Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain completely dry throughout the entire week. There is no possibility of rainfall. Within the coming week, temperatures in various districts of UP could rise by an additional 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. After April 18, the mercury is expected to climb even more rapidly. However, the department has not yet issued any formal ‘Red’ or ‘Orange’ alerts; nevertheless, the dry winds could exacerbate conditions.
Key Weather Updates for UP
– In Banda, the temperature was recorded at 2.4 degrees above normal.
– Due to westerly winds, humidity levels will remain low over the next 4–5 days; however, the heat intensity will remain high.
– In Prayagraj and Varanasi as well, temperatures have crossed the 40-degree mark.
– In Lucknow, too, the mercury has reached 38.1 degrees, which is close to the normal range.
Amidst such intense heat, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the afternoon hours and ensure you stay well-hydrated. Although there is currently no official warning regarding a heatwave, rising temperatures could still pose health challenges.
