US Study Rules Change: Now the rules for studying in America have changed, know what the students will have to do?

Thousands of children dream of going to America and completing their studies. However, only a few of them are able to fulfill their dreams. Let us tell you what you have to do if you want to go to America and study.

US Study Rules Change: A new challenge has emerged for thousands of Indian students who dream of studying in America. In 2025, the US government has made several important changes in the rules of student visas F-1, J-1, M-1. The purpose of these changes is to strengthen the security of the country and to check the digital activities of the applicants. But this has had a direct impact on the visa process of students, which has now become more complex and sensitive than ever before. Let us know which rules have been changed.

Social media investigation

Now students will have to provide information about their social media accounts of the last five years while applying for a visa. The special thing is that these accounts should be public. If a candidate keeps his profile private, or any objectionable content is found, the visa may be rejected. According to US embassies, this rule has been made mandatory from the point of view of national security.

Strictness increased in interview process and documents

Recently, America has restarted the interview process, but this time with strict security standards. Now all students will have to mail the barcode of their DS-160 form to the interview appointment. Apart from this, all documents like passport, educational record, bank statement and SEVIS receipt will have to be uploaded online 72 hours before the interview. If there is any mistake in this, the appointment can be cancelled.

Demand for financial proof is now more

Now it is not enough to show only the first year’s tuition fees or bank balance. Officials demand that students give complete financial details of the estimated cost (tuition, living, insurance etc.) during the entire course. This can cause problems for those students whose financial condition is limited or whose sponsor documents are not strong.

Strict monitoring of OPT and duration of studies

For students studying on F-1 visa, spending more than five consecutive months outside the US can now lead to visa cancellation. However, some relief has also been given regarding Optional Practical Training (OPT). Now it has been extended to more course levels, so that students can get better opportunities to work after studies.

What will Indian students have to do?

If you want to go to America to study, then you have to keep these changing rules in mind. You have to prepare all the documents ahead of time. Social media has to be kept clean and public and prepare for the visa interview seriously.
