Vande Bharat Sleeper train: Indian Railways has unveiled a major treat for long-distance travelers. The country’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been officially announced. Interestingly, in this race, two major metropolises in South and West India have emerged victorious, leaving states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar behind. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has confirmed that the country’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper train will operate between Bengaluru (KSR City) and Mumbai (CSMT). P.C. Mohan, the Member of Parliament for Bengaluru Central, shared this information while posting a letter from the Railway Minister.

The 22-Hour Journey Will Now Be Shorter

Currently, the Udyan Express is the only direct daily train operating between Bengaluru and Mumbai. This train takes approximately 22 hours to cover a distance of 1,134 kilometers, with an average speed of a mere 52 km per hour. Meanwhile, the same journey takes 15 to 17 hours by road. With the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper, this journey will not only become more comfortable, but the travel time is also expected to drop to less than 16 hours.

Awaiting Timings and Route Details

Although there has been no official announcement regarding the train’s specific timings and stoppages yet, passengers have suggested that the journey duration should not exceed 16 hours. According to the proposed schedule, the train could depart from Mumbai at 5:00 PM and arrive in Bengaluru at 9:00 AM the following morning.

Why Were Delhi-Bihar Routes Left Behind?

It was widely anticipated that the second sleeper train would be allocated to the Delhi-Patna or Delhi-Howrah routes; however, the absence of any premium train service—such as the Duronto or Rajdhani Express—between Bengaluru and Mumbai ultimately tipped the scales in favor of this route. A demand for a superfast train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai had persisted for the past 30 years, and it has finally received approval.

Key Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper

The Vande Bharat sleeper coaches have been meticulously designed to prioritize passenger comfort. Passengers will experience a jerk-free ride with minimal noise levels, complemented by a thoroughly modern interior aesthetic. Furthermore, the train will be equipped with the ‘Kavach’ safety technology for enhanced security, along with world-class restroom facilities.
