For the convenience of pilgrims during the Magh Mela, the Railways has decided to run the Gorakhpur-Lucknow Vande Bharat Express from Phaphamau station instead of Prayagraj Junction from January 13th to 25th. This will provide relief to passengers on the Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Gorakhpur routes, as Phaphamau station is connected to the Ganga Path. Devotees will be able to take a dip in the Sangam and then directly board the train, avoiding the congestion at the junction.
Vande Bharat Train: This year, during the Magh Mela, the world’s largest religious festival, devotees will also travel to the Sangam to bathe in the Vande Bharat Express. The Railways have taken a significant decision for the convenience of passengers.
From January 13th to January 25th, the Vande Bharat Express from Gorakhpur to Lucknow via Prayagraj will depart directly from Phaphamau Railway Station instead of Prayagraj Junction. This will provide significant relief to passengers traveling on the Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Gorakhpur routes.
Most importantly, Phaphamau station is now directly connected to the Ganga Path route. This means that devotees returning from the Sangam after bathing or visiting the Ganga will be able to reach the station’s western gate directly via the Ganga Path. From there, they can board the Vande Bharat Express and head home. There’s no traffic hassle, no hassle of a crowded junction.
According to railway officials, the train’s new schedule will be as follows:
- It will depart from Gorakhpur at 6:05 am and arrive at Phaphamau at 12:55 pm.
- On its return journey, it will depart from Phaphamau at 3:35 pm and arrive at Gorakhpur at 10:40 pm.
This means that passengers departing from Gorakhpur or en route stations in the morning will be able to reach the Sangam by noon, bathe, take darshan, and return home by the afternoon train. The darshan and return will be possible in a single day, all in the comfortable seats of the semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express.
Phaphamau station is being temporarily designated as a stop for the Vande Bharat Express during the fair, as it is just a few kilometers from the fair area and directly connected to the Ganga Path. This will reduce the burden on Prayagraj Junction, eliminating the need for pilgrims to change buses or autos over long distances.
A senior railway official said, “We’ve noticed that the majority of passengers come to the Magh Mela from the Purvanchal and Awadh regions. Due to the congestion at the junction, many times, even after securing a seat on the Vande Bharat Express, people are unable to reach on time. Running it from Phaphamau will make the journey easier.”
This news has brought joy to devotees. Rampravesh Yadav, a passenger from Gorakhpur, said, “Earlier, we had to go to the junction and were troubled by the crowds and traffic there. Now, we can get a train directly from near the Sangam. Lord Ram and Mother Ganga have blessed us.”
CPRO Shashikant Tripathi explained that this new change is crucial for crowd management.
