Visa Rules Change: If you’re planning a trip to Dubai or the United Arab Emirates (UAE), it’s crucial to understand the changes in regulations there. The UAE government has launched its biggest-ever overhaul of its residency and visa system in 2025. The primary objective of this overhaul is to attract talent, investors, and skilled professionals from around the world. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has approved these new regulations, which will apply to different categories of individuals.
Four new entry categories introduced to ease the path for artificial intelligence experts and artists
The UAE has introduced four new categories of visit visas to promote specialized skills and promote tourism. The most prominent of these is the “Specialist Visa,” specifically designed for experts working in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). This visa will be available in both single and multiple entry options.
Additionally, an “Entertainment Visa” has been introduced for artists and those involved in cultural activities. Those wishing to attend a conference, exhibition, sporting event, or religious event can obtain an “Events Visa” upon invitation from the host. A “Maritime Tourism Visa” has been introduced for cruise travelers and leisure boaters, allowing multiple entries.
Inviting friends and relatives will require a more stringent budget, with a new salary limit set for sponsorship.
Under the new rules, sponsoring friends or relatives in the UAE is no longer as easy as before. The government has set a salary (income) limit for this. If you wish to invite your parents or children (first-degree relatives), your monthly income must be at least 4,000 dirhams.
For siblings or other relatives (second and third-degree), the income limit is 8,000 dirhams. The strictest rules apply to inviting friends. If you want to sponsor a friend, your salary must be 15,000 dirhams.
The government has opened a plethora of benefits for Golden Visa holders, providing immediate assistance if their passport is lost abroad.
This change brings good news for Golden Visa holders. The Ministry of External Affairs has launched five new exclusive services for these visa holders. If their passport is lost abroad, they will receive electronic documentation. Additionally, 24-hour emergency assistance and a dedicated global hotline will be provided in case of any emergency. The government will also arrange for humanitarian evacuation and, in unfortunate circumstances, repatriation of remains.
Tightening of rules for truck drivers, proof of income and experience will now be required for business visas.
Regulations for foreign truck drivers entering and working in the UAE have been tightened. They will now need sponsorship and health guarantees from accredited logistics companies to obtain visas. Additionally, those seeking to come to the UAE to explore business opportunities (Business Exploration Visa) will now be required to prove the purpose of their visit, as well as provide solid evidence of their financial capacity and professional experience.
UAE will support in difficult times, with major relaxations in residency rules for war-affected and widowed women.
The government has also relaxed visa rules on humanitarian grounds. Citizens of countries affected by war or natural disasters will now be able to obtain a one-year residency visa, allowing them to find a safe place to live. Furthermore, foreign widows and divorced women married to UAE citizens or residents have also received significant relief. They will be granted six months of residency, which can be extended if needed. Importantly, they will also be able to sponsor their children during this period.
