Water Metro: Following the success of the Kochi Water Metro project, work will soon begin on developing the facility in Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh government has given its approval to Kochi Rail Metro Limited. Work on preparing a feasibility report has already begun. Once the report is complete, work on the DPR will commence. After Uttar Pradesh, Kochi Metro Rail Limited will also work on the Water Metro project in Delhi. The Yamuna River holds immense potential.

Water Metro is possible in many states.

Numerous rivers flow through all the states of the country. Rivers pass through most of the cities in many states. Kochi Metro Rail Limited has initiated work on the Water Metro project to better utilize these rivers for transportation purposes.

It has been initiated in Kochi. Kochi will have a 78-kilometer corridor. Not only are the corridor’s 38 terminals ready, but passengers are already enjoying the benefits of the water metro. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on April 25, 2023. Since then, 5 million people have availed of this facility.

No shortage of water metro passengers in Delhi either

The audit has clearly shown that the project has no shortcomings at all. In light of this, the company has now planned to expand the project to other cities. Feasibility reports are being prepared for Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

The company will operate in 18 cities across the country within the next few years. These include Delhi, Ahmedabad, Patna, and Mumbai. There is no shortage of passengers for the water metro in all these cities.

The facility could be available in many rivers.

Water Metro doesn’t require very deep water to operate. Even water depths of one and a half to two meters can provide water. This much water is always present in most rivers. Considering this, work can be done to develop water metro facilities in most rivers across the country.

No land required, no fear of pollution

Kochi Metro Rail Limited is now contacting all relevant governments. Like Uttar Pradesh, the Bihar government is also showing interest in this project. Providing a water metro service from Paija Ghat on the Ganges near Patna, the capital of Bihar, to Bidupur in Vaishali district will benefit millions of people. Similarly, a water metro service on the Yamuna in the Delhi area will be of significant benefit. It will require no land and will not increase pollution levels.

Curiosity to learn about the Water Metro

At the Urban Mobility India Conference held at Hotel Hyatt Regency, most companies involved in metro projects exhibited. Many people were interested in learning about Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s water metro project. The company has made arrangements at its stall to allow people to experience the water metro’s capabilities.

Tourism will also receive a boost.

“The potential for a water metro is immense in the country. Several state governments have expressed interest in this project. Feasibility reports for the project are being rapidly prepared in three cities of Uttar Pradesh. The state government is very enthusiastic about this project. This gives hope that the dream of a water metro in Uttar Pradesh will soon be realized. The Kochi Water Metro project has been successful at every level. This is the state’s first water metro project. This project is also promoting tourism. The central government wants to expedite work on the water metro project. The biggest feature of this project is that it does not require land.”
