Weather Update: Due to heavy rain and snowfall, 4 national highways and 350 roads closed, holiday in schools and colleges.

Himachal Pradesh Weather: Snowfall continues for the second consecutive day in 5 hill districts of Himachal. There is widespread rainfall in the plain parts of the state including Shimla. There is also a storm going on at many places.

Snowfall has started in the high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh in the beginning of March. Due to heavy rains in the plains, the entire state has been hit by cold wave. It has been raining in the capital Shimla since morning.

Due to bad weather, the risk of avalanche falling in Lahaul Valley has increased. The fresh snowfall has affected the traffic system, power supply and communication system in the tribal districts. Vehicular movement is at a standstill on 350 roads including four national highways. There is power failure in many areas due to damage to 1314 transformers due to snowfall and storm.

Rain and snowfall continues in Chamba district also due to which many roads have been blocked. Pangi Valley has received one foot of fresh snowfall. In Kullu district too, snowfall is continuing on the higher peaks and in the lower areas there are clouds with thunderstorms last night. However, farmers and gardeners are very happy with this snowfall.

290 roads in Lahaul-Spiti district, 32 in Kinnaur, 10 in Mandi and seven in Kullu are closed due to snowfall. Two national highways each in Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu districts are blocked due to snow. 337 power transformers have shut down in Chamba district. Apart from this, 314 transformers are stalled in Lahaul-Spiti, 284 in Mandi, 218 in Kinnaur and 161 in Kullu.

Minimum temperature of the state dropped, cold increased

Due to rain and snowfall in the state, the entire state has come under the influence of severe cold. The weather has become as cold as the month of December and people in the plains have again had to take out warm clothes. The average minimum temperature in the state has dropped by 1.5 degrees during the last 24 hours. Kalpa and Reckong Peo of Kinnaur recorded minimum temperatures of -2.1 and -0.2 degrees Celsius respectively. Similarly, it was -1.7 degree Celsius in Keylong of Lahaul-Spiti and -1.2 degree Celsius in Narkanda of Shimla district. Minimum temperature in Shimla was 5.5 degrees, Sundernagar 9.5 degrees, Bhuntar 6.2 degrees, Dharamshala 11.1 degrees, Una 11.4 degrees, Nahan 11.3 degrees, Palampur 9 degrees, Solan 9.4 degrees, Manali 0.5 degrees, Kangra 12.4 degrees. degree, 9.4 degree in Mandi, 13.1 degree in Bilaspur, 10.4 degree in Chamba, 3.9 degree in Dalhousie, 8.2 degree in Jubbarhatti, 3.5 degree in Kufri, 0.2 degree in Kukumseri, 1.9 degree in Bharmour, 4 degree in Seobagh, 4 degree in Paonta Sahib 10 degree Celsius, 4.5 degree Celsius was recorded in Sarahan, 10 degree Celsius was recorded in Dehra Gopipur.

Weather will remain bad till March 6

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for snowfall in the high mountain and medium altitude areas of the state and rain in the lower areas throughout the day today. There will be a yellow alert of lightning at some places on March 3. The weather will remain bad on March 4 and 5, while on March 6, there has been a warning of thunderstorm and lightning. The weather will remain bad in the entire state till March 7.
