Western Disturbance: The effects of the first Western Disturbance of December are already visible in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in many parts of the state from December 5th. Snowfall in the Himalayan regions will increase the chill.
The weather in Uttarakhand is about to change once again. According to the Meteorological Center, Dehradun, rain and snowfall are expected in the mountainous regions of the state from December 5th. A frost warning has been issued for several high-altitude areas on December 4th. The Meteorological Department says that light rain may be recorded at some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh districts, while fresh snowfall is likely in areas above 3,200 meters.
Dr. C.S. Tomar, director of the Meteorological Center, stated that temperatures in the state have been steadily dropping for two days, and this drop could be recorded by another one to two degrees in the next one or two days. This will make nights even colder, and frost in the mountains is expected to cause slippery conditions and impact transportation. The weather is expected to remain dry in the lower areas, but the chill will increase in the morning and evening.
The first Western Disturbance of December
Experts say this change is being seen due to the activation of a Western Disturbance. Light to moderate snowfall is predicted in several high Himalayan regions, such as Mana, Badrinath, Nelang, Dharchula, and the upper reaches of Munsyari. While this may increase tourism activity, local administrations must be prepared to deal with situations such as icing of roads and highway blockages.
Meanwhile, as the cold increases, the Health Department has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant. The elderly, children, and the sick have been advised to exercise special caution. Officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel during the intense cold spell and, if heading to hilly areas, carrying warm clothing, essential medications, and anti-slip chains in the vehicle.
