Following Senyar, another storm has formed in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain alerts have been issued for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain vigilant and fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea.
Cyclonic storm Senyar is steadily weakening. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has reported that another storm is approaching the Bay of Bengal. This storm is named ‘Ditwah’. Both these storms have increased concerns for India.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the impact of Cyclone Ditwah will be felt in the southern states of India. The IMD has stated that these storms are likely to worsen the weather in the coastal areas of South India. The department has reported that the deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal on Thursday turned into Cyclone Ditwah.
Meteorological Department Issues Alert
In view of this dangerous system forming in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a pre-cyclone alert. The department stated that the cyclone is heading towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala. Extremely bad weather is expected in these areas until November 30th. The department has advised fishermen in coastal areas to remain vigilant.
Heavy Rains Expected in These States
Cyclone Ditwah is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rains to several states in South India. According to the department, heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
It is worth noting that even before the storm reached the coastal areas, light to moderate rains occurred in some areas of Tamil Nadu on Friday. However, heavy rains occurred in South Tamil Nadu.
Weather to Remain Bad Until November 30th
The department stated that due to Cyclone Ditwah, the weather is expected to remain bad in these three states until November 30th. On Friday, light to moderate rain is likely at many places in South Tamil Nadu and at some places in northern parts of the state and Puducherry and Karaikal.
On the other hand, rain is likely across Tamil Nadu on Saturday. The department said that heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai tomorrow. Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely in North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on November 30.
Strict advisory for fishermen
Due to Cyclone Ditwah, the India Meteorological Department has strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area, and Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast until December 1. Those already at sea have been urged to immediately return to the nearest coast.
