WhatsApp new feature: Now you can read voice messages instead of listening; Know how

Messaging platform WhatsApp is rolling out a new voice transcriptions feature for Indian users. With the help of this feature, users will be able to read voice messages instead of listening to them.

WhatsApp new feature: The popular messaging platform WhatsApp is offering a new feature called Voice Transcripts to Indian users. This feature was announced in November last year and is now being rolled out. The new feature will allow voice messages to be read like text through on-device processing. The benefits of this feature have started being available in the Android app and will soon be available in the iOS app as well.

Users were waiting for this new feature for a long time and finally it is being rolled out in India as well. If users want, they will be able to read an audio note instead of listening to it. However, Hindi language support is not available in it right now. The list of languages in which this feature is giving the option of transcription includes English, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian etc.

This is how the new transcription feature will work

If you are in a noisy place or in a place where you cannot play voice messages, then the new feature will be useful. With a single tap, the user will be able to see the message as text and read it. WhatsApp says that it will provide a better way to have a conversation.

It is claimed that this entire transcription process will be on-device and WhatsApp will not get access to this audio or text. That is, privacy will be taken care of with this feature.

You will be able to use it by following these steps

The new feature is disabled by default and you will have to enable it by going into the settings. You will have to follow the steps mentioned below.

  • First of all open WhatsApp settings.
  • After this, tap on ‘Chats’.
  • Now after scrolling down, you have to tap on ‘Voice Message Transcripts’ and enable it.
  • After this, you have to choose your language from the ‘Chose Language’ option.
  • Here you have to choose between ‘Set up now’ or ‘Wait for WiFi’. You can change the transcription language whenever you want.

Once you enable the new option, you have to long-tap on the voice message. After this, go to More options and tap on Transcribe and the text will appear on the screen.
