WhatsApp Security: Always check these settings to keep WhatsApp account secure

Many of us use WhatsApp every day to connect with family or friends. WhatsApp is a very good platform for personal and work conversations where we can also make video and audio calls.

Check these settings to keep your WhatsApp account secure

To keep your WhatsApp account secure, we have given some ways below, by following which you can also keep it safe.

Update your app

As a digitally secure rule, keep all the apps you use up-to-date with their latest versions. This practice is important because developers often find bugs and errors in the application’s code that hackers can exploit to gain access to your device. Fixes or patches for these bugs are usually made available through regular app updates. So, keeping your apps updated will ensure that you have the latest patches and latest features available to users.

Set up two-step verification

WhatsApp has its own version of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), which is built into the app to ensure that others cannot take over your WhatsApp account without the code.

To enable the two-step verification option, go to the Settings menu of your WhatsApp application, then select ‘Accounts’ and then select ‘Two-Step Verification’. Select ‘Enable’, and you’ll then need to enter a six-digit PIN and an email address. After completing these steps, two-step verification will be activated in your account.

Enable biometric lock

Most smartphones today have a fingerprint-based or Face-ID biometric lock. WhatsApp allows you to use this biometric to interact with the WhatsApp application.

To enable the biometric lock option, go to the Settings menu of your WhatsApp application, then select ‘Account’ and then select ‘Privacy’. Now, select ‘Fingerprint lock’ on Android device or ‘Screen Lock’ on iOS device from the menu. On the next screen, you can select the biometric lock you want to use.

After this, even if your mobile goes in someone else’s hand, then he will not be able to open the lock.

Disable whatsapp chat backup

Unlike regular WhatsApp chats, the backup is not end-to-end encrypted. WhatsApp chat backups are usually stored on Google Drive for Android users or iCloud for iOS users. Through these cloud services, hackers and other crooks can access users’ WhatsApp chats. If users really want to keep their chats secure, they should disable the chat backup feature on WhatsApp and wait until the developers come up with end-to-end encryption for the backup.
