All doubts related to the ‘one-time tax’ system will be resolved; Transport Fair to be held on February 20-21

The UP government has implemented a “one-time tax” system, which will relieve the hassle of paying taxes repeatedly. Transport fairs will be held at the RTOs and ARTOs of all districts on February 20-21, where vehicle owners’ concerns about the transport tax system will be resolved on the spot.

One-time tax” system: The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a “one-time tax” system, revamping the transport tax system. The aim is to simplify the tax payment process and increase revenue. Transport fairs will be held on February 20 and 21, 2026, at all district Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and Assistant Regional Transport Offices (ARTOs) across Uttar Pradesh to inform vehicle owners about the new system and address their concerns.

On-the-Spot Solutions and Commissioner’s Appeal

During these fairs, officers will promptly resolve issues related to tax calculations, payment procedures, deadlines, registration, vehicle category changes, and adjustments. Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh has urged all vehicle owners and those involved in the transport business to participate in these fairs and take advantage of the new system. The system is now live on the Vahan portal, allowing for easy and transparent digital payments.

Public service and commercial vehicles also included

Last month, Section 4 of the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1997, was amended to bring hired/hired vehicles under the one-time tax. This includes two-wheelers, three-wheeler motor cabs, motor cabs (excluding three-wheelers) costing up to and above ₹10 lakh (except three-wheelers), maxi cabs, construction equipment vehicles, special purpose vehicles, goods vehicles weighing up to 3,000 kg and 3,000-7,500 kg, and public service vehicles of state transport.

Under this new system, the cumbersome process of repeated tax payments will be replaced by a one-time fee based on the vehicle’s value or category, promoting transparency and efficiency.

Key objectives and benefits

This initiative aims to relieve vehicle owners from the complex recurring tax system, simplify administrative procedures, and strengthen revenue collection, especially at a time when budgets are under pressure due to EV subsidies. Cases related to driving licenses and vehicle fitness will also be resolved on the spot at the transport fairs.

This move is being seen as an extension of the one-time tax system previously implemented for non-transport vehicles, making Uttar Pradesh one of the leading states to adopt a digital and user-friendly tax system.
