Bill to regulate illegal colonies in Delhi passed by Rajya Sabha, millions will get benefit

New Delhi, The bill to regulate illegal colonies in Delhi has been passed by the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament. Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri laid the second (Amendment) Bill -2021 of the National Capital Territory Laws (Special Procedures) on the Table of the House on Monday. The Central Government introduced the Bill in place of the Second (Amendment) Act, 2020 of the National Capital Territory Laws (Special Procedures) in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.




President Ram Nath Kovind announced the implementation of the act on December 30, 2020. Through this, the National Capital Territory Laws (Special Statutes) Second Act, 2011 was amended. This Act of 2011 was valid till December 31, 2020. The act has increased its deadline to December 31, 2023. Through this Act of 2011, there will be regularization of illegal colonies till March 31, 2002 in the national capital Delhi. Also, wherever the construction is done till June 1, 2014, it will also be regularized.




Now this Act is being amended to identify the regularization of illegal colonies so that the National Capital Territory (Identification of Property Rights of Residents of Illegal Colonies) Act, 2019 and National Capital Region (Identification of Property Rights of Residents of Illegal Colonies) ) Through regularization, 2019, these property holders can be correctly identified. Therefore, illegal colonies existing till June 1, 2014 and colonies developing 50 percent by January 1, 2015 would be considered suitable for regularization. The government now wants to make this Act a law through this bill.
