The head of the Sri Lankan Election Commission, Nimal Panchiva, on Monday dismissed reports that India’s ruling party BJP had claimed plans to form a political party in Sri Lanka. He said that the election law of the country does not allow such arrangements.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expansion into Sri Lanka and Nepal has been denied by the Election Commission of Sri Lanka. The Election Commission of Sri Lanka said that the election law of the country does not allow any such arrangement. He told that the election law of Sri Lanka does not allow any foreign party to work in Sri Lanka. Nimal Panchiva, the head of the Election Commission of the southern country, said this on Monday.
Actually, Assam Chief Minister Biplav Deb has in the past, Union Home Minister Amit ShahDescribing the vision of KK said that he wants to expand the BJP in Sri Lanka and Nepal too. While addressing the party workers, Deb had said that when Amit Shah was the party president, he told us (from Biplav Deb) that the BJP is yet to expand into Sri Lanka and Nepal and win there.
The market of discussions had heated up since Deb’s statement. Meanwhile, the Chief of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka Nimal Panchiva himself came forward and ruled out any such possibility. He said, “Any political party in Sri Lanka can have relations with any party or group abroad but our election law does not allow any other foreign party to work in Sri Lanka.”
