The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the tentative schedule for the Class 10 and 12 board examinations for the year 2026. Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj stated that this schedule will help students plan their studies effectively and schools and teachers coordinate academic and administrative work.
CBSE 2026 Datesheet: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday announced the tentative dates for the 2026 board exams. According to the schedule, these board exams for students in grades 10 and 12 will begin on February 17th next year. Approximately 4.5 million students from India and 26 other countries are expected to appear for the CBSE Board Exams 2026. The CBSE stated that the results will be declared by July 15, 2026. Exams will be held twice a year.
In June of this year, the CBSE announced that Class 10 board exams will be held twice a year from 2026. Under the new plan, the first compulsory exam will be held in mid-February, and the second optional exam in May. This exam will be conducted for students who wish to improve their results in three of the four subjects: science, mathematics, social science, and language.
According to information provided by the board, all passed and eligible students will be allowed to appear for the exam to improve their performance in any three subjects from science, mathematics, social science, and languages. If a student has not appeared in three or more subjects in the first exam, they will not be allowed to appear for the second exam. Such students will be placed in the “essential repetition” category and can only appear for the main exams in February of the following year.
Students who have a compartment result in the first exam will be allowed to appear for the second exam under the compartment category. Additional subjects will not be permitted after passing class 10. Sports students will be allowed to take a second exam in subjects whose exams coincide with their sporting event. Students from winter-bound schools can choose to take either the first exam or the second exam in the offered subjects.
