Layoffs Announcement: GoPro, the action camera manufacturer, is set to implement a massive reduction in its workforce. In a regulatory filing, the company disclosed that, as part of an internal restructuring, it plans to lay off approximately one-quarter of its employees—a move estimated to cost the company tens of millions.

GoPro Becomes the Latest Company to Announce Layoffs

The U.S. action camera manufacturer GoPro has announced that it will cut a significant portion of its workforce in an effort to reduce costs and return to profitability.

In a filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), GoPro stated that it would reduce its global workforce by 23 percent. The layoff process is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026 and is expected to be completed before the end of this year. The company currently employs a total of 631 people, 145 of whom will be affected by these layoffs.

Earlier, GoPro CEO and founder Nicholas Woodman stated that the company is facing “macroeconomic pressures” related to supply chain issues, memory prices, and tariffs.

GoPro to Spend Millions on Employee Layoffs

According to regulatory filings, the restructuring plan was approved by GoPro’s Board of Directors on April 7, 2026. The company estimates that this restructuring will incur costs ranging from $11.5 million (approximately ₹106 crore) to $15 million (approximately ₹138 crore). This includes severance payments and healthcare benefits for the affected employees.

GoPro had projected that it would return to profitability by the end of the 2025 fiscal year; instead, however, it recorded a loss at year-end. Amidst a decline in revenue, the company posted a loss of $9.1 million in the fourth quarter. The U.S. camera manufacturer is facing stiff competition from rivals such as DJI and Insta360.

This marks another major round of cuts following two previous waves of layoffs in 2024, during which GoPro reduced its workforce by approximately 4 percent in the first quarter and 25 percent in the third quarter.

With these layoffs, GoPro joins a growing list of U.S. companies that are rapidly cutting jobs. Oracle recently laid off more than 30,000 employees as part of a global restructuring. Other companies implementing job cuts include Amazon, Meta, Atlassian, and Block.

GoPro Expands Its Portfolio

To stage a market comeback, GoPro is expanding its product portfolio to include AI-related products and a new image processor. The company also plans to unveil new cameras powered by the GP3 processor at the NAB trade show later this year.

GoPro first launched its camera line in the early 2000s. Its ‘Hero’ line of action cameras went on to become iconic during the 2000s and 2010s.
