Delhi Fee Rules 2026: The Delhi government has taken a major step to address complaints of arbitrary school fee hikes, providing significant relief to students and their parents. The government has decided to implement a new timeline for setting and controlling school fees from the 2026-27 academic session. To this end, the “Delhi School Education Order, 2026” was introduced in the Delhi Assembly on Friday.
This order was issued to address the difficulties in implementing the “Delhi School Education Act, 2025.” This law came into effect on December 10, 2025. Let’s explore what this order is, how it will be implemented, and what benefits it will bring to students and parents.
Fee Regulation Committee to be Formed in Every School
According to the new order, all schools will be required to form a School-Level Fee Regulation Committee (SLFRC) within 10 days of the order’s publication in the Delhi Gazette. However, the committees already formed under the order of December 24, 2025, will remain valid.
These committees will examine the fees proposed by school managements and determine the fees based on the provisions of the law. Following the committee’s formation, schools will be required to submit their proposed fee structures for the next three academic years, beginning in 2026-27, within 14 days.
A separate committee will be formed for fee disputes.
The government has also decided to establish a Fee Appellate Committee (DFAC) in every education district within 30 days of the publication of the order. This committee will hear any fee-related disputes or complaints.
Fees will not increase until the new fee structure is approved.
This Delhi government rule could provide significant relief to parents and students. The government has clarified that until the new fee structure for the period 2026-27 to 2028-29 is approved, no school will be able to charge more than the fees applicable on April 1, 2025.
The government has also stated that if any school charged higher fees before the new fee structure was finalized, it will be adjusted after the final fee is finalized.
Special provision will remain in effect for three years.
This special provision will remain in effect from the 2026-27 to 2028-29 fee cycle. After this, schools will have to adhere to the same timetable as previously prescribed in the Act and its accompanying rules.
The Education Department states that the Fee Regulation Act came into effect in December 2025. Therefore, adhering to the previously set deadline for the 2025-26 session was not practically easy. Therefore, the government has issued this new order, using the powers granted under the law.
