Voting for the assembly elections is taking place today in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. According to the Election Commission of India, polling began at 7:00 AM. There are 126 seats in Assam, 140 seats in Kerala, and 30 seats in Puducherry. The results of these elections will be declared on March 4, along with those of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, is seeking to return to power. He faces a challenge from the opposition Indian National Congress.
In Kerala, the contest is between the Left Democratic Front and the opposition United Democratic Front. The Left Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is attempting to form the government for a third consecutive term under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
In Puducherry, a Union Territory, the ruling National Democratic Alliance is striving to consolidate its hold, while the Indian National Congress serves as the opposition.
