VB- G RAM G Bill 2025: The Lok Sabha approved the ‘Developed India – Ji Ram Ji Bill, 2025’ on Thursday (December 18) amid heavy opposition uproar. Discussion on the ‘Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) (Developed India – Ji Ram Ji) Bill, 2025’ concluded after midnight on Wednesday. 99 members participated in the discussion. This proposed law will replace the 20-year-old Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

After Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded to the discussion on the bill, the House passed it by voice vote. Following the passage of the bill, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House at 1:07 pm until 11 am on Friday.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday rejected the opposition’s demand to refer the ‘Developed India – Ji Ram Ji Bill, 2025’, introduced by the government to replace MNREGA, to a parliamentary committee for discussion.

After a late-night discussion on the bill on Wednesday, when Speaker Birla named Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to respond to the discussion, Congress MP KC Venugopal demanded that the bill be referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee or Joint Committee (JPC).

He said, “This is the sentiment of the entire House. The government should send it to a parliamentary committee. We are ready to cooperate.” Birla responded, “99 members expressed their views on this bill. The discussion lasted late into the night. Members from all parties expressed their views. I extended the discussion time at the opposition’s request.”

He told the opposition members that protesting in this manner was not a proper practice. Shivraj Singh Chouhan then began responding to the discussion on the bill. He said that the opposition’s opposition in this manner was a violation of Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of non-violence. Opposition members then began sloganeering.

Opposition MPs demanded that the Ramji Bill be withdrawn or referred to a parliamentary committee. However, Shivraj Singh Chouhan dismissed the opposition’s allegations, saying that Mahatma Gandhi lives in our hearts. He added that the Modi government is implementing several schemes based on the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.
