US HIRE Act: Skilled workers in the US are granted H-1B visas. This visa allows thousands of foreign workers to enter the US each year for jobs in various sectors, including tech, finance, and healthcare. The H-1B visa has been the subject of considerable controversy, as it has been labeled a job-killer for Americans. Supporters of President Donald Trump have even called for the program’s abolition. But now, significant news is emerging regarding the H-1B visa.

Indian-American Democratic Party MP Raja Krishnamoorthi has said that he has reintroduced the High-Skill Immigration Reform for Employment (HIRE) Act. Its goal is to double the number of H-1B visas to 130,000. Currently, only 65,000 visas are issued each year. Additionally, a separate 20,000 visas are available for those who have earned degrees from American universities. If this happens, it will make it even easier to find jobs in the United States, especially for Indian workers.

What is the HIRE Act?

The HIRE Act is supported by the ITServe Alliance, the largest association of IT service organizations. The Act clearly states that the number of H-1B visas will be doubled. This will bring top talent to the country to work in the essential and emerging technology sector. This will ensure that companies in the US have access to top talent. The Act also proposes eliminating the 20,000 visa limit.

Under this Act, direct funding will be provided for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs in US schools. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said, “To create the jobs and industries of the future, America must remain a leader in innovation by strengthening its workforce and continuing to attract top talent from around the world. By providing companies with skilled workers, we will strengthen American companies’ leadership in the technology field.”
