Indian Idol: Kumar Sanu says ‘jitna gossip hoga, utna TRP badhega’ as he take a sly dig at Indian Idol

Kumar Sanu just passed a not-so-favourable comment on Indian Idol and other reality shows/ Although he agrees they give a platform for aspiring talents to shine; he also feels these shows promote “gossip.”

Indian Idol 12 has been grabbing a lot of attention these days. It’s currently one of the few shows with highest TRP. Well, that’s also because it’s a franchise that has been established over the last 12 years and has earned a reputation of being the most popular singing reality shows in India. However, lately, the show has been coming at the receiving end for a couple of wrong reasons starting from the controversial Kishore Kumar episode to the fan frenzy around contestant performances, eliminations.

Recently, singer Kumar Sanu was asked to share his views on what does he think of reality shows. Does he feel that they nurture talent or are they just another platform to attain popularity and Sanu had a rather interesting statement to make. He feels that reality shows like Indian Idol sell “gossip” for the sake of TRP.

“Jitna gossip hoga, utna TRP badhega, samjha karo. Badi baat nahi hai (The more the gossip, the better will be the TRP. Please understand. It is no big deal). Talent finds a way and these shows bring the talent to the fore, but what next? Not just Indian Idol, every show brings such talent to public platform. Maybe they do not get a chance in the industry, they may get a chance to get some work and money”, Kumar Sanu was quoted saying in interaction with Hindustan Times.

Not too long ago, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya too had taken an indirect dig at Indian Idol by calling the judges of the show “inexperienced”. For those unaware, Indian Idol 12 is currently being judged by Neha Kakkar, Vishal Dadlani and Himesh Reshammiya. Speaking of which, Abhijeet had said that the reason why he is not willing to appear on the show as a celebrity guest is because he doesn’t want to share the stage with people who “haven’t served music.”

“I told them, I am not asking for work, I am asking for what is rightfully mine. People work under me. I am the employer. They call people who’ve sung four songs in their life. You make those people judges who haven’t served music. They are only commercial. They’ve given hit songs, but they haven’t given music anything,” he told Bollywood Spy
