The central government started this scheme in 2016. Since then, around 10 crore consumers have been added. Under this scheme, 75 lakh new connections have also been approved.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, while giving important information to the Parliament, said that the government has been effective compared to other countries in providing LPG Gas Cylinder to poor families at cheaper prices. The prices of LPG in neighboring countries Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka are much higher than in India. Recently, while answering a question in the Parliament, he also gave information about the consumption of LPG.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the average per capita consumption of LPG has improved to 3.8 cylinder refills from April-October, which was 3.01 cylinder refills during the year 2019-20. And during the financial year 2022-23 it was 3.71.

This scheme gives cylinder for just Rs 600

The Union Minister said that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the Central Government gives a subsidy of Rs 300 to poor families. In such a situation, the beneficiary of the scheme will get 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi for Rs 603. If you are a beneficiary of this scheme of the Central Government, then you will have to buy it for Rs 903 in New Delhi. Later, a subsidy of Rs 300 will be sent directly to your account. Hardeep Singh Puri told that the price of LPG cylinder in Pakistan is Rs 1059.46, in Sri Lanka it is Rs 1,032.35 and in Nepal it is Rs 1,198.56.

LPG consumers increased

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that during the year 2014, there were 14 crore LPG consumers, but now it has become 33 crore. He told that there are about 10 crore consumers under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana alone. It is noteworthy that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016, so that poor families could be given the benefit of LPG gas at affordable prices.

Approval for expansion of PMUY

Recently, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the expansion of the scheme to release 75 lakh LPG connections in three years from the financial year 2023-24 to 2025-26.
