The journey from Delhi to Meerut is now going to be even easier. Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station is ready and it is likely to be inaugurated on 17 September.
New Metro Station: The journey from Delhi to Meerut can now be completed in less than an hour. The last pending station of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, Sarai Kale Khan, is now ready. It is expected to be inaugurated on September 17, which is the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, it has not been officially confirmed yet.
Sarai Kale Khan: NCR’s new transit hub
Sarai Kale Khan will be the largest station of this 82.15 km long Delhi-Meerut corridor. This station will not only handle a large number of passengers but will also become an important gateway connecting Delhi and neighboring states. There will be direct connection from here to the bus terminal, metro and railway station. The structure of the station is also grand. It is 215 meters long, 50 meters wide and 15 meters high. The special thing is that three different RRTS corridors will be connected from here.
Public transport will get a big boost
The project, being built at a cost of about Rs 30,000 crore, aims to increase the share of public transport on the Delhi-Meerut route from 37 per cent to 63 per cent. Currently, a 55-km stretch from Delhi to Meerut South is operational, where 11 stations are providing service. It has become clear in the trial run that trains will reach from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut’s Modipuram in less than an hour, despite stopping at all stations.
Fast, safe and modern travel
These trains, named ‘Namo Bharat’, will run at a speed of 160 km per hour. Passengers will not need seat reservation and will get fast and comfortable service like metro. The project also emphasizes on the safety and empowerment of women. For this, appointment of women employees, dedicated coaches and high-tech monitoring systems have been installed. It is expected that after the opening of Sarai Kale Khan station, the connectivity of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan will be even stronger. This will also prove to be an important step towards the economic development and environmental protection of NCR.
