During the ceremony, he praised the legacy of Sainik School Ghorakhal, proudly noting that this school alone has produced over 800 students for the National Defence Academy (NDA).
Giving a new dimension to the country’s defence preparedness and youth participation in nation building, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has made major announcements. Addressing the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Sainik School Ghorakhal, he announced the opening of 100 new Sainik Schools across the country and a substantial increase in the number of NCC cadets. The Defence Minister announced the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) with the aim of inculcating the values of discipline, leadership and patriotism among the youth.
He said, “We have increased the number of vacancies in the NCC. While the previous recruitment target was 1.7 million, it has now been decided to increase it to 2 million. This will provide more children with the opportunity to learn the values necessary for nation-building.”
Expanding the scope of military-oriented education, Rajnath Singh announced that the government is establishing 100 new Sainik Schools in the country under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He emphasized that these institutions not only prepare young people for the defense services but also enable them to take on leadership roles in various fields.
The Defense Minister described the government’s decision to allow girls to enter Sainik Schools as historic and revolutionary. He called it a major milestone towards women’s empowerment and said that the performance of female cadets has proven that our daughters are equal to sons in every field.

During the ceremony, he praised the legacy of Sainik School Ghorakhal. He proudly noted that this school alone has produced over 800 students for the National Defence Academy (NDA). Furthermore, over 2,000 cadets have graduated from here through various avenues such as CDS and AFCAT and are serving the nation. He praised the students’ excellence in academics, sports, and cultural activities.
Inspiring the cadets, Rajnath Singh placed special emphasis on discipline and preparedness. Offering the youth a mantra for success, he said, “I want to tell all the children: ‘Be prepared, always be prepared.’ Prepare yourself for every situation. Mental strength and physical fitness are essential to overcome challenges.”
He concluded by saying that a strong nation is built only when its citizens are mentally and physically prepared to face any emergency.
