New Toll Tax System: Toll tax will have to be paid according to the fixed distance, new toll system will be implemented

KM Based Toll Policy: The Government of India is working on a new toll policy under which users will have to pay toll tax according to the distance covered. To implement this new system, an advanced system based on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology is in the process of being introduced.

New KM Based Toll Tax Policy: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to bring a new toll policy in the country. Under this new policy, drivers will have to pay toll tax only for the number of kilometers they travel. That is, the new toll policy will collect kilometer-based tax. Although no official announcement has been made by the government in this regard yet, it is being discussed a lot in media reports. So let’s know what is this kilometer-based toll policy-

An ET report states that under this policy, FASTags and cameras will be installed at every toll booth and the toll will be collected directly from the car owner’s bank account. The government is in the process of introducing an advanced system based on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to easily implement the new toll policy. This policy has been made to provide relief to people traveling on expressways and national highways across the country.

Let us tell you that, currently, as per the National Highway Fee Rules, 2008, users have to pay a fixed amount of toll fee based on the length of the road under a road project, which is usually 60 km. If this new policy is implemented, it will not only make travel easier but will also be economical.

How will this system work?

According to the report, the cameras installed at the toll booth will record the number plate of the car and the toll will be deducted from the banks linked to the Fastag. Apart from this, toll tax will be charged according to the kilometers traveled by the vehicle. That is, the user will have to pay toll only for the kilometers he has traveled.

If the balance in the user’s bank is less according to the toll amount, then a penalty can be imposed. Also, according to the current policy, the user will have to pay toll for at least 60 kilometers. Since the new policy is going to be kilometer-based, it is expected to be more economical for the passengers.

Reports also say that in the new toll policy, toll can also be made barrier-free. This will help in making travel even more convenient. If this happens, then long waiting lines will be relieved at toll booths on highways and expressways across the country. Apart from this, relief from dispute situations is also expected.

A few days ago, it was also reported that the Government of India is also considering issuing an annual pass (FasTag Annual Pass) for Fastag. Under which the drivers will have to pay only once and they will be able to travel throughout the year. In this presented proposal, it was suggested that users will have to pay Rs 3,000 for this annual pass. However, no official announcement has been made about the Fastag pass yet.
