So let us tell you, on 26 February 2025, Indian stock markets will be closed on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Mahashivratri is a major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month.

What was the condition of the stock market on Monday

On Monday, i.e. 24 February, the stock market saw a decline. The BSE Sensex closed 856.65 points lower at 74,454.41, while the Nifty50 closed 242.55 points lower at 22,553.35. Talking about the 50 stocks of Nifty50, 38 of these stocks remained in the red mark. Big stocks like Wipro, HCL Tech, TCS and Infosys saw a decline. At the same time, stocks like Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Lab and Nestle India witnessed a rise.

Small and midcap stocks also fell

Small and midcap stocks also showed a decline like the benchmark index. Nifty Smallcap100 and Nifty Midcap100 index fell 1.02 percent and 0.94 percent respectively. Most sectoral indices also ended in the red, except Nifty Auto and FMCG. Nifty IT, down 2.71 percent and Nifty Pharma, down 2.17 percent, were the biggest losers.

Stock market will remain closed for so many days in 2025

According to the 2025 calendar released by the National Stock Exchange (NSE), there will be a total of 14 holidays in the stock market this year.

March: Holi (14 March, Friday) and Eid-ul-Fitr (31 March, Monday).

April: Shri Mahavir Jayanti (10 April, Thursday), Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti (14 April, Monday) and Good Friday (18 April, Friday).

May: Maharashtra Day (1 May, Thursday).

August: Independence Day (15 August, Friday) and Ganesh Chaturthi (27 August, Wednesday).

October: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra (2 October, Thursday), Diwali Laxmi Pujan (21 October, Tuesday) and Diwali-Balipratipada (22 October, Wednesday).

November: Prakash Parv Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (5 November, Wednesday).

December: Christmas (25 December, Thursday).
