Giriraj Singh said in the Lok Sabha that considering the land and other conditions in urban areas, a higher amount has been earmarked than in rural areas and at present the government has no plan to bridge the gap between the two.
The government currently has no plans to bridge the gap in the amount given per housing unit under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Union Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Giriraj Singh gave this information in reply to a supplementary question by Shiv Sena MP Kripal Balaji Tumane during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The amount was increased for rural areas
Singh said that before 2016, under Indira Awas Yojana, per unit housing in rural areas was fixed at Rs 70 thousand, but his government has doubled it i.e. Rs 1.40 lakh, whereas for urban areas this amount is Rs 2.5 lakh. Is. He said that considering the land and other conditions in urban areas, a higher amount has been earmarked as compared to rural areas and at present the government has no plan to bridge the gap between the two.
The underprivileged will not get a chance at present
In response to a supplementary question by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Minister of State for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said that due to the irregularities of the state governments under ‘Awas Plus’, the housing scheme was deprived of inclusion in the list. There is currently no plan to extend the deadline for the remaining needy. He said that the government is focusing on achieving the earlier target.
What is PM Awas Yojana?
This scheme was launched on June 25, 2015. It is run by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The government aims to provide housing facilities to poor and homeless people under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. It is run separately for urban and rural areas. Under PM Awas Yojana Gramin, PM Awas Gramin List / Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin List is issued, and all the beneficiaries named in it are provided assistance to build their own houses.
