The Uttar Pradesh government is now assigning a unique 16-digit digital ID to every home and shop. This will make paying property taxes easier and curb land disputes.
PTMS Uttar Pradesh: A major change is underway for people living in Uttar Pradesh’s cities regarding property tax and property records. The state government is implementing a new “Property Tax Management System” (PTMS). Under this system, every home, shop, and office will have a unique 16-digit identification. It’s starting with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation and will soon be implemented across municipal corporations across the state. Let’s find out how this new system will work for you and its benefits.
Starting in Lucknow, then expanding across Uttar Pradesh
According to Ravi Nirwal, Sales Director of Square Yards, this 16-digit system will not be limited to Lucknow. All municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh will issue smart number plates for properties within their jurisdictions. Lucknow is among the first cities where its impact is already visible. This is part of the UP government’s larger plan to digitize urban administration.
What is this new 16-digit magical number?
This system will keep complete records of property tax assessments, collections, and outstanding dues. Ravi Nirwal explains that previously, land records were maintained separately in different departments, leading to data errors and significant verification difficulties. Now, with a single digital database, managing and cross-checking records will become much easier.
A ‘Chip-Based Nameplate’ Will Be Installed Outside Your Home
The most important feature of this new system is that a number plate will be installed outside your home or shop. This plate will contain a smart chip that will store all the data related to your property. Officials simply need to enter this ID into their machine or system, and the entire property history will be displayed. This will eliminate the need for repeated visits to the Municipal Corporation.
Your Home Will Be Visible on Google Maps
In an Economic Times report, Tussi Kumar, partner at Singhania & Company, explains that under this system, all properties will be uploaded to Google Maps. This means you will be able to view your home’s location and related tax information online. This system is also being implemented in cities like Saharanpur and Bareilly.
Curb Fraud and Land Mafia
The biggest benefit of this digital ID will be that it will prevent fraud. According to Tussi Kumar, these four key benefits will be provided.
1. Secure Ownership: The unique ID will make it difficult for land mafias to seize government or disputed land.
2. Information at a Click: Any citizen will be able to check the land’s history, ownership rights, and dispute status from the comfort of their homes.
3. Ease of Bank Loans: By being linked to schemes like ‘Virasat’, this ID will serve as solid proof of ownership, making it easier to obtain bank loans.
4. Reduced corruption: An online system will reduce the reliance on clerks in government offices, curbing bribery.
Officials will receive real-time data.
An ET report quoted Shashank Agarwal, founder of Legum Solis, as saying that this will help improve property records in the long run. The system will be connected to the Smart City Command and Control Center. This will provide officials with real-time information about how much tax has been collected from each area and where the outstanding amount is. This will help improve urban services such as water, electricity, and waste management.
