Delhi Ravidas Jayanti Holiday: Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated like a festival in Delhi. Ravidas was a famous saint of the Bhakti movement. This year his birth anniversary is on 12 February (Wednesday).

Ravidas Jayanti Holiday In Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena has issued an order on Monday declaring a public holiday on February 12. The notification issued by the General Administration Department said that on Wednesday (February 12, 2025) there will be a holiday in all government offices, autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings of the Delhi government on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.

The new order states that the restricted holiday declared on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti in November 2024 has been canceled. The effect of the LG’s order regarding the holiday is limited only to government offices and public sector undertakings. It is not mandatory for private companies, schools and other institutions to implement it.

Who was Sant Ravidas?

Guru Ravidas was a popular saint of the Bhakti movement. He was born in Banaras. His name is recorded among the medieval saints. Sant Ravidas is also popular by the name of Raidas. Most people know him by the name of Raidas. Ravidas was a cobbler by profession. Raidas is a saint associated with the saint tradition of Ramanand. Raidas is considered to be the chief among the 12 disciples of Sant Ramanand.

Raidas was against discrimination

Saint Ravidas worked towards eliminating casteism and high-low feelings. He used to teach everyone to live with harmony and brotherhood without any discrimination. So that a discrimination-free society can be created.

According to Saint Ravidas, “The opportunity to worship God in life is obtained by luck. A person who works with devotion is successful in life. Every person should give up pride and the feeling of considering himself superior and behave with everyone in a simple and equal manner.” His words had such an impact on people that people from all sections of society became his devotees. Mirabai was also very impressed by his devotion and became his disciple.
