In fact, according to the government holiday calendar released by the government at the beginning of the month, many major public holidays have been fixed in August 2025.
Three major public holidays have been announced
Public holidays have been announced on Rakshabandhan on 9th August Saturday, Independence Day on 15th August Friday and Shri Krishna Janmashtami on 16th August Saturday. This holiday is also special because two of these are coming with consecutive weekends. In such a situation, employees are going to get a long break.
Total five Sundays in the month of August
Let us tell you that there are total five Sundays in the month of August. Apart from 3 August, employees will get the benefit of weekly leave on 10-17-24 and 31 August due to Sunday. In such a situation, if you are thinking of getting some important work done in any government office in August, then be careful! Government offices will remain closed for a total of 8 days in the entire month. Apart from five Sundays, offices will be closed in case of 3 public holidays.
Major regional and religious holidays
Rather than being a nationwide holiday, these festivals or local holidays are declared by several states/union territories:
9 August (Saturday) – Raksha Bandhan/Jhulna Purnima – Banks and government offices remain closed in many states
16 August (Saturday) – Janmashtami (as per Vaishnava/Smarta date) – Most states observe holiday, while some places observe limited holiday
27 August (Wednesday) – Ganesh Chaturthi/Vinayak Chaturthi – Holiday declared in many states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka
28 August (Thursday) – Ganesh Chaturthi (second day) and Nuakhai – State holiday declared in some states
8 August (Friday) – Tendong Lho Rum Phat – Banks and offices remain closed in Sikkim
13 August (Wednesday) – Patriots Day (Imphal, Manipur) – Local holiday declared
19 August (Tuesday) – Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Jayanti – Holiday declared in Agartala (Tripura)
In the month of 31 days in August, there will be only 23 working days. Out of which some offices may remain open for half or limited time in case of Saturday. In such a situation, plan your work in advance according to the holidays.
