Tax payment service not working in new IT portal: Here’s how to pay it online

The new website of Income Tax Department has gone live and the sole purpose of creating another website was to make it hassle free. But even after a week of launch, it has also faced some glitches.




The new portal, www.Incometax.gov.In , was launched last Monday (June 7) with the tax department as well as the government, saying it aims to make compliance more taxpayer-friendly.

But users complained of technical issues from day one and everything has not been fixed even after a week, Chartered Accountants (CAs) said, adding that taxpayers are unable to view previous e-filed returns and many facilities/ Features continue to be marked ‘coming soon’.

“Designed with your convenience in mind, the portal provides facilities to make your e-filing experience easy, simple and smart,” the Income Tax Department said in a statement, while introducing the new website.

But now taxpayers will not have the option of the new tax payment system currently available on the income tax portal.” The new tax payment system will be introduced on June 18, 2021 after the date of advance tax installment to avoid inconvenience to any taxpayer,” the Income Tax Department said.

The tax payment system is basically advance tax to individuals, self-assessment tax, tax on regular assessment, surcharge, tax on distributed profit of domestic company and tax on distributed income to unit holders, payment of TDS/TCS by company or non helps. Company deductee, payment of demand raised by CPC-TDS against TDS on rent of property among others.

In order to pay taxes online, the user has to follow certain steps:

1) Visit http://www.tin-nsdl.com and then login

2) Click on Services section and then click on E-Payment: Pay Tax Online option. The next step is to click on ‘Click here’ on the ‘e-pay tax’ tab given on the website.

3) Select the important challan – ITNS 280, ITNS 281, ITNS 282, ITNS 283, ITNS 284 or Form 26QB Demand payment (only for TDS on sale of property) as applicable.

4) Then enter your PAN/TAN (as applicable) and other required challan details like Accounting Head, Tax Payer Address and Bank Details.

5) After submission of these details, a confirmation screen will be displayed which will display the full name of the taxpayer if PAN/TAN ITD is valid as per PAN/TAN master.

4) After confirmation, you will be directed to the net-banking site of the bank.

5) Then you need to login to the net-banking site with User ID and Password and provide payment details.

6) Once the payment is done, a challan counterfoil will be displayed containing the CIN, payment details and the name of the bank through which the e-payment has been made. This is a proof of counterfeit payment.
