Giving relief to the taxpayers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has once again extended the last date for filing Income Tax Return. This will give more time to the taxpayers to file their ITR for the assessment year 2021-22.
31st December will be the new last date
The Income Tax Department informed by tweeting that the last date for filing ITR and different types of audit reports has been extended. Now the last date for filing ITR will be 31 December 2021. Till now it was 30 September 2021.

Audit report will be submitted by January 15
Similarly, the audit report to be submitted under any provision of the Income Tax Act was earlier extended till 31 October 2021. Now its last date has been extended to 15 January 2022. Similarly, for some provisions, the last date has been extended from 28 February to 31 March 2022.
The decision was taken due to the troubles of the taxpayers
The Finance Ministry said that the Income Tax Department has taken this decision in view of the difficulties being faced by the taxpayers in filing income tax returns and various audit reports. Significantly, the Income Tax Department had launched its new portal on 7 June this year. Since then there have been constant problems on this.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also expressed her displeasure many times over Infosys, the company handling it, regarding the problems being faced by the new portal. Due to this, the last date for filing income tax return was earlier extended to 30 September 2021.
