TMKOC: Dilip Joshi was earlier offered this role, know why Jethalal’s character was chosen?

Although every character of this show has been given a lot of love by the audience, but the character Jethalal Champaklal Gada is most liked in it. Playing this character in the show- Dilip Joshi, who has appeared in many TV serials and films.

An old video of Dilip Joshi has surfaced, in which he revealed that he was sitting empty till a year before he was offered Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah . He didn’t have any work. In this video you can also hear Dilip Joshi saying that he was offered the role of Champaklal along with Jethalal by the producer of the show Asit Modi.

This character was offered before Jethalal
Dilip Joshi said that whatever serial I was doing had gone off air. After that I sat vacant for a year. Then one day Asit Bhai told that he is making this show. I was so thrilled that hey it will be so much fun. He offered me the character of Jethalal. However, earlier he had given me the choice to play either Champaklal and Jethalal.

The actor further said- I told him that Champaklal toh main lagunga nahi. Jethalal will also not be used, because the character of Tarak Mehta Bhai has been taken, he was very thin, who had a big moustache. The one who used to come in caricatures in the column. However, I told him that I can try. So Asit Bhai said that I have full faith that whatever character you will do, you will do very well. So just in this way the character of Jethalal came.

He told that when this show started, there was a lot of negativity going on everywhere. Saas-Bahu Yeh Woh… Our aim was to reach people’s drawing rooms, so why not give some positivity to the society.
