Bank Holiday: Banks will be closed in several states across the country today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025. However, this holiday is not nationwide. All government and private sector banks will be closed in Karnataka, Odisha, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh, while banking services will be available as usual in other states.

The reason for the bank holiday is Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and Kumar Purnima, which are being celebrated together today on the full moon day of the month of Ashwin. On Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, people remember the poet Valmiki, who composed the Ramayana. Kumar Purnima is primarily celebrated in Odisha and Bihar. On this day, people worship Lord Kartikeya (Kumar) and offer prayers to the full moon. This is why banks will be closed in these states today.
