Low-cost carrier Air India Express has introduced Dh2 for excess baggage in 5kg and 10kg lots for a limited period for bookings made till January 31, 2026, for travel between January 16 and March 10, 2026.

The discount is offered across all fares, including Xpress Value, Xpress Lite, Xpress Flex, and Xpress Biz. For international flights, the regular cost ranges between Rs700 (Dh28.54) and Rs3,600 on pre-booking. However, prices could vary, depending on the flight duration and destination.

The full-fledged carriers charge higher rates for excess baggage than low-cost airlines.

The UAE and other carriers introduced special airfare and baggage discounts during the lean season to increase seat occupancy on key routes. The UAE and GCC-India routes are one of the busiest corridors due to a large number of non-resident diaspora living and working across the region.

There are over nine million Indian nationals — including over four million in the UAE — living and working across the Gulf countries, who frequently travel between the two regions. Any fluctuations in airfares and baggage rates influence the travel plan of budget-conscious passengers, especially those who travel with families.

Passengers travelling from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE to India can purchase additional check-in baggage for only BHD 0.2, KWD 0.2, OMR 0.2, QAR 2 and SAR 2, respectively, in lots of 5kg and 10kg.

Air India Express operates direct flights to and from major cities between the UAE and India.
