Vande Bharat Routes Change: If you are planning to travel by train from Delhi to Kanpur or Lucknow in the coming days, this news is extremely important for you. Northern Railway has implemented a 42-day mega traffic and power block spanning from April 2 to May 13. As a result of this decision, the routes of several trains—including premium services like the Vande Bharat and Shatabdi—have been diverted, while a number of other trains have been cancelled. Consequently, passengers may face inconvenience over the next month and a half.

According to railway officials, extensive repair and improvement work is being undertaken on the Kanpur–Kanpur Bridge Left Bank section. On Bridge No. 110, steel troughs will be replaced with H-beam sleepers, thereby enhancing the strength and safety of the track. This work will be carried out during daily operational blocks lasting eight hours.

Which trains will be affected?

Due to this “mega block,” several MEMU and Passenger trains operating between Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, Raebareli, Sitapur, and Kasganj will remain cancelled for the entire duration of the work. Additionally, the schedules of several Mail, Express, and Superfast trains have been revised, or these trains have been short-terminated.

Revised Routes for Vande Bharat and Shatabdi Trains

A matter of significant concern for passengers is that the routes of major trains—such as the New Delhi–Lucknow Shatabdi Express and the Anand Vihar–Ayodhya Cantt Vande Bharat Express—have been diverted. These trains will now operate via Moradabad, thereby bypassing several key stations, including Kanpur.

Impact on Long-Distance Trains

Several trains bound for Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and the North-East will also be diverted to alternative routes. Consequently, these trains will bypass certain stations, and passengers may need to make adjustments to their travel plans. The Railways has advised passengers to strictly check the status of their trains before commencing their journey. Traveling without prior information could lead to inconvenience due to the changing schedules and route diversions.

Why is this work necessary?

Although this undertaking will cause inconvenience to passengers in the interim, it is being carried out to strengthen railway infrastructure and ensure safer travel in the future.
