Atiq Ahmed Scene ‘Decoded’
Ejaz Gulab explained that shooting action scenes based on real incidents is more difficult than fiction scenes, because people remember what actually happened. However, after rigorous rehearsals, the team shot the entire scene in the middle of the night.
Speaking to Digital Commentary, Ejaz Gulab said, “It was very difficult to shoot. It’s incredibly hard to put a real sequence on reel. Audiences have already seen those scenes on news channels, so they have the image of how he was killed in their minds. It was live, in front of everyone.”
“So, shooting a live sequence requires careful consideration: where the police will be, where the character will be, where the person will come from. The challenge is the same. How many bullets he has to fire, how to fire them. The surrender also has to take place on the same date. Everything had to be the same. Although we completed it in a very short time, we had rehearsals in place. We completed the sequence at midnight.”
Ejaz further said, “The character of Atiq Ahmed was small, but it needed to feel real, so we shot it after thorough preparation. Because in such scenes, you’re confined to a certain boundary; if you step outside it, you’ll be noticed. If it’s your own recreation, you can add or subtract a little.”
