The Bihar Education Department has clarified that no changes have been made to any previously scheduled holidays. This time, the winter vacation is scheduled from December 25th to December 31st, 2026, which will last a total of seven days.
School Holiday 2026: There’s good news for school students in Bihar. The Education Department has released the academic calendar for the year 2026. According to the notification, students will enjoy a total of 75 days of holiday in 2026, including 10 weekly holidays on Sundays. This includes festivals like Makar Sankranti, Holi, Rakshabandhan, Diwali, Chhath, as well as summer and winter vacations. This will apply to all government, state-run, nationalized, project, upper primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools (including Sanskrit, Urdu, and madrasa) in the state.
When will Bihar schools be closed in 2026?
- According to the new academic calendar released by the Bihar Education Department, government schools will be closed for 118 days in 2026.
- Summer vacation will be from June 1st to June 20th (20 days).
- Winter vacation will be from December 25th to December 31st (5 days total).
- There will be 10 consecutive holidays for Diwali, Chhath, Bhaiya Dooj, and other festivals. Schools will be closed from November 7th to 17th.
- Holidays will be for Makar Sankranti on January 14th, Basant Panchami on January 23rd, Republic Day on January 26th, Sant Ravidas Jayanti on February 1st, Mahashivratri on February 15th, and Holi on March 3rd-4th.
- Durga Puja holidays will be from October 17th to 21st.
- Dates of Muslim festivals will be based on the sighting of the moon, so they are subject to change.
- Schools will be open but classes will not be held on the holidays of Independence Day (August 15th), Republic Day (January 26th), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2nd). The holiday will follow the scheduled schedule.
- Students will be given homework during the holidays. This will be evaluated when school reopens.
