Delhi Metro New Service: In order to fight pollution in the capital Delhi, now the rich class will also be encouraged to ride the metro. For this, facilities will be increased. A luxury coach will be added to the six-coach metro. Along with this, luxury cabs will also be deployed for them at the metro stations, which will drop them home or office.
They will be charged a good fee for this. This extra fee will be spent in improving the facilities for the common people in the metro. Union Energy and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal made this announcement while addressing a public meeting in Nehru Nagar, Lajpat Nagar on Thursday.
3.5 million people use the Delhi Metro daily.
He stated that this initiative will reduce traffic congestion on Delhi’s roads. With fewer vehicles on the roads, there will be less smog and help control pollution. 3.5 million people use the Delhi Metro daily, with approximately 6.5 million daily rides.
Imagine what the state of pollution in Delhi would be like if the Metro were not there. The Union Minister stated that Delhi has been suffering for the last 20 years. No one has addressed it. Problems range from roads to transportation and waste disposal. 18 such problems have been identified for the capital.
Over 400 km of Lines in Delhi-NCR
The Ministry of Urban Development is meeting with the Delhi government every month to address issues point-by-point. This includes expanding the Metro network as much as possible. Currently, over 400 km of lines are operational in Delhi-NCR.
We will soon surpass Chicago in terms of the longest number of lines in one location. Nationwide, there are a total of 1,100 kilometers of metro lines. Another 800 kilometers are under construction. Once 400 kilometers are completed, we will surpass even the United States as the country with the longest metro network.
