PM Ujjwala Scheme 2020
The scheme was launched in 2016 and since then millions of poor families have been benefitted. The PMUY scheme is currently active and covers 715 districts in the country. The main objective of the scheme is to provide clean fuel in the form of LPG gas connections to BPL families with no access to clean fuels. It will empower women and also make them health due to the smoke emanating from impure fuel.
For each new connection to the beneficiary, Rs. 1600 / – cash assistance is provided. Under this scheme, beneficiaries get loan on refill or LPG stove. So far, the government has provided millions of connections to eligible families. Over the years, the government has also made some changes in the scheme such as eligibility criteria for beneficiaries etc.
Initially, eligible BPL families were identified through socio-economic caste census (SECC 2011) data.

Prime Minister Ujjwala scheme eligibility and selection of beneficiary
Under this scheme free LPG connections and benefits are provided only to the candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions.

An adult woman from a poor (BPL) family without an LPG connection.
The applicant must be over 18 years of age.
Applicant must be a citizen of India.
The connection will be issued only in the name of the women of the family.
Applicant families should not avail benefits under any other similar scheme.
These beneficiaries will be identified from the following seven categories i.e. SECC 2011 list or BPL houses.
